GUJRAT: A man was killed and his wife was shot in firing by their rivals outside the gate of Gujranwala district and sessions court on Friday.

Reports said Afzan of village Gagarkey was on bail in at least two cases of murder. When he arrived at the district courts to attend a hearing on a motorbike along with his wife, Fiza, and two members of his family on another motorbike, his rival Adalat Khan along with his accomplices also was there. He opened fire on Afzan and Fiza. As a result of firing, Afzan died on the spot and Fiza received injuries.

Adalat started raising slogans at the body when police on the security duty arrested him and shifted him to the lock-up while other suspects managed to flee.

Civil Lines police said the deceased was on bail in two different murder cases lodged against him with Ferozewala and Saddar Gujranwala police stations. Adalat told police that Afzan had murdered his brother and cousin in different incidents a couple of years ago.

UoG EXHIBITION: With a view to promoting entrepreneurship and fostering innovation among the students, the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Gujrat (UoG) held a project exhibition.

It was inaugurated by Department of Chemical Engineering chairperson and KFUEIT former vice chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Suleman Tahir.

Chemical Engineering students showcased their products related to business and entrepreneurship. The products included nail polish, soap, hair oil, perfume, glass cleaner and popcorn. The students were also offered guidance for education abroad.

“Focusing on manufacturing and commercialization, the six start-ups training in as many months is aimed at paving the way for creating jobs for our graduating students,” Dr Suleman Tahir, who led the initiative, said. He claimed that they had the capability to launch these ventures and were actively seeking investors to take these innovative ideas to the national level.

Dr Tahir said the primary goal of higher education was to elevate practical awareness among the students. He said he believed the economic development of the country depended entirely on the practical application of new knowledge and research. He said the products displayed by the chemical engineering students could be successfully marketed with proper commercialisation.
