SILENT KILLER

SILENT KILLER: After the tragic diagnosis of 30 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, a patient undergoing chemotherapy in Jinnah Hospital died due to the negligence of a doctor who failed to administer an anti-allergen injection before blood transfusion. The tragedy at Jinnah Hospital is not an isolated case, but part of a larger pattern of medical negligence. The negligence of doctors and medical staff has become a silent killer. How long will the people of Pakistan continue to endure such tragedies?

KARACHI IN RUINS: Karachi has been on the receiving end of neglect and destruction for long. It seems as if certain powers are intentionally and systematically behind this situation. People are running around in search of water tankers, facing street criminals, and negotiating broken roads. The city that generates the largest chunk of revenue is subjected to cruel management, and this must stop.

TRAFFIC MAYHEM: Traffic chaos can be observed daily at the Committee Chowk in Rawalpindi due to haphazard car parking by those who visit the area in search of fried fish. On top of that, the traffic from Mohallah Qutubuddin has started violating one-way traffic restri-ctions to move towards the Chowk to cross the intersection. This causes a complete mayhem, especially during rush hours. The traffic authorities should look into the matter without any delay.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: This refers to the report “‘Fusion model agreed for ICC Champions Trophy’” (Dec 14). There was never a point in bending to India and its threats. There seems to be one law for India and a different law for the other countries. Pakistan should continue to take a firm stand in this regard. It may cause a financial loss in the short term, but will produce a beneficial effect in the long run.
