KARACHI: A man, who was to tie the knot in a fortnight, was shot dead by robbers near the Banaras area, police said on Saturday.
The Pirabad police said that the incident took place late on Friday night when Jamal Shamshad, 35, along with his friend, was riding his newly purchased motorbike.
Area SHO Imtiaz Mirjat said that armed men, also riding a motorbike, intercepted him on the Metro Cinema flyover near the Abdullah College, held him at gunpoint and snatched his two-wheeler.
The SHO claimed that the criminals shot Shamshad when he put up resistance and fled on his motorbike, while abandoning their own two-wheeler.
The victim suffered a critical bullet wound in the chest and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment, he added.
He said that the victim, who was a resident of Metroville, SITE, had recently purchased the motorbike and was enjoying the ride along with his friend.
He said that the motorbike abandoned by the robbers was found to be stolen within the remit of the Sachal police station on Dec 11.
“The police are waiting for the relatives to lodge an FIR. Investigations are underway to ascertain the identity of the killers and bring them to justice,” the SHO added.
Meanwhile, the victim family told the media that Shamshad was supposed to be married in two weeks.
