Suspect shot dead in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: A suspected criminal was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Ibrahim Hyderi on early Sunday morning.

Area SHO Fahadul Hasan said that a police team indicated a motorcyclist to stop for checking near Benazir Chowk. The suspect resorted to indiscriminate firing and a bullet hit the vest of Constable Ahsan Ali.

The police returned fire, wounding suspect, who later identified as Shoaib Khaskheli. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

The police claimed to have recovered one 9mm pistol with three live rounds, one bike, Rs70,000, a cell phone and small quantity of heroin from his custody.
