Stars clinch national women’s one-day title

RAWALPINDI: A captain’s innings by Sidra Amin and an all-round performance from Rameen Shamim led Stars to a five-wicket win over Conquerors in the National Women’s One-Day Tournament final here at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Stars’ received a prize money of Rs1.5 million. The Fatima Sana-led Conquerors had to settle with a runners-up trophy and a prize money of Rs1 million.

Opting to bat first, Conquerors managed to post 178 for nine in 45 overs. Conquerors’ Hafsa Khalid top-scored with a 78-ball 47, hitting nine boundaries. Dua Majid was other notable contributor with a 66-ball 40 containing three fours.

For Stars, pacer Waheeda Akhtar bagged three wickets for 33, while spinners Rameen Shamim (2-38), Tuba Hassan (2-42) and Neelam Mushtaq (1-26) shared five wickets between them.

In reply, Stars achieved the target in 43.2 overs losing five wickets in the process.

Sidra (77 off 84 balls, 11 fours and one six) and Rameen (37 not out) knitted a 103-run partnership for the fifth wicket while Tuba Hassan’s (12 not out, four balls) three boundaries in the 43rd over made sure Stars get a comfortable win.

Sidra, for her match-winning innings was declared the player-of-the-final while Invincibles’ Omaima Sohail (253 runs, 13 wickets) was adjudged the best player of the tournament.

In other individual awards, Invincibles’ Muneeba Ali (12 dismissals) was declared the best wicket-keeper of the tournament. Challengers’ Aliya Riaz (382 runs in eight games) was named best batter while Stars’ Rameen (20 wickets in nine matches) earned the best bowler of the tournament honours.
