ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday stayed the proceeding of newly constituted election tribunal dealing with Islamabad’s NA-46 election petitions.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq also stayed proceedings of two other election tribunal for Islamabad constituencies NA-47 and NA-48, bringing the proceedings to a halt for all three constituencies of Islamabad .

The order was passed during a hearing on a petition filed by Aamir Masood Mughal, who contested the election of Anjum Aqeel Khan as Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-46.

Mughal’s legal counsel, Faisal Hussain argued against the appointment of the new election tribunal, claiming procedural irregularities.

The IHC has issued notices to all parties involved, seeking their responses.

The registrar’s office will give schedule for the next hearing afresh. In the meantime, retired Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha, appointed to oversee the tribunal, has been prevented from conducting hearings on these cases, originally scheduled for December 24.
