SNGPL extend winning streak at national team squash

KARACHI: Top seeds Sui Southern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) men’s team maintained their winning runs as they cruised to victory in the COMBAXX — Roshan Khan National Team Championship here at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Monday.

SNGPL’s trio of Asim Khan, Amaad Fareed and Israr Ahmad won their respective matches against Sindh to register their second consecutive win.

Asim crushed Naveed Rehman 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 while Amaad ensured the triumph with a win over Anas Khan 11-7, 11-7, 11-6. Israr was the only player to drop a game but he made sure to complete the sweep when he beat Abdul Basit 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-2.

Second seeds Wapda also emerged victorious over Navy in their Pool B match as Noor Zaman, Nasir Iqbal and Abdul Nawaz all won their matches.

Noor downed Mohammad Ashab Irfan 11-1, 11-9, 11-8 while experienced Nasir got the better of Huzaifa Ibrahim 11-2, 11-6, 12-10. Nawaz, meanwhile, was declared winner when his opponent Anas Ali Shah got retired hurt while trailing the match 2-1.

In the other Pool B match Railways thrashed Navy with a perfect 3-0 score. Talha Saeed defeated SL Sardar Hussain 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 and Hassan Paracha routed Lt Cdr Syed Saad 11-2, 11-6, 11-5. Mohammad Ali also recorded a flawless victory over SL Muzammil.

In the evening session of fixtures on Monday, Wapda continued their winning streak while handing Railways their first defeat 3-0.

Noor downed Talha 11-3, 11-4, 11-5, Abdullah Nawaz, who replaced Nasir, crushed Nasrullah 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 and Farhan Mehboob, playing in place of Nawaz, cruised past Mohammad Ali 13-11, 11-6, 11-1. Army were also triumphant in their match over Balochistan 3-0. Mohammad Ashab Khan, Huzaifa Ibrahim and Sadam-ul-Haq all won their respective matches comfortably.

In the women’s category, Army won both of their matches on the second day while Sindh also registered one victory.

Army won their matches against Sindh and Wapda 3-0 while Sindh won against Balochistan 3-0.
