Ghazi varsity marks National Working Women’s Day

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Ghazi University commemorated the National Working Women’s Day with an awareness seminar titled ‘The Significant Role of Women Leadership in Advancing Society’.

Organised by the Women’s Development Centre, the event celebrated the contributions, challenges, and rights of working women.

Key speakers included lawyer Naureen Iqbal Tarin, entrepreneur Mah Noor, women’s chamber representative Farah Bashir, Darul Aman In charge Zarnia Bibi, dental surgeon Salbia Batool Bhatti and Working Women Hostel In charge Anisa Fatima.

The seminar, hosted by sociology lecturer Samira Bano, explored topics such as entrepreneurship, legal rights, and government initiatives for women’s welfare. Speakers shared inspiring narratives emphasizing resilience, equality, and empowerment. Entrepreneur Mah Noor recounted her journey of launching a business without initial capital, while Noreen Iqbal offered free legal assistance to women in need.

Registrar Dr Abid Mahmood Alvi highlighted the university’s ongoing initiatives, including the Women’s Development Centre, Business Incubation Centre, and e-Rozgar Makerspace, all aimed at fostering skills and independence among women.

He also stressed the importance of the anti-harassment cell and the university’s strict zero-tolerance policy against harassment.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ashfaq Ahmad presided over the event.

RESCUE 1122: District Emergency Officer Engineer Ahmed Kamal announced the launch of a comprehensive internship programme.

The initiative, launched at Chowk Chorhatta, is designed to train university students in first aid and emergency response.

Participants will gain hands-on experience with advanced medical equipment and learn life-saving techniques, including artificial respiration for cardiac arrest, bleeding control, and personal safety measures. Upon completing the program, trainees will assist at Rescue 1122 centers across the city.

Mr Kamal said that the programme aims to empower youth, equipping them with essential skills to enhance community safety and effectively manage emergencies.

The initiative, part of the Pakistan Life-Saving Program, is supervised by Operations In charge Mian Abdul Rauf and Community Safety In charge Kanwar Faheem.
