KBBA announces team for national championship

KARACHI: The Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) scrutiny committee has announced the selection of the Karachi women’s team on Tuesday for the National Women’s Basketball Championship.

The championship is scheduled to take place from Dec 26-30 at the Wapda Sports Complex in Lahore.

The team, led by captain Safa Afzal, departed for Lahore on Tuesday. The team’s lineup include Hareem Zahid (vice-captain), Noor Fatima, Enaya Kamran, Amtul Amsaal, Hamna Faraz, Aqsal Hanif, Maham Mukkaram, Deena Rizvi, Aisha Ijlal.

The Karachi team will be managed by Ghulam Mohammad, who was accused by the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) of holding ‘illegal’ elections in Karachi, while Azeem-us-Shaan will perform duties as coach.The event will feature eight top teams from across the country, including defending champion Wapda, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Army, Lahore, Islamabad and Hazara.

According to the PBBF, the teams have been divided into two pools, with pool “A” comprising Wapda, Karachi, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur and pool “B” featuring Pakistan Army, Lahore, Islamabad and Hazara.

The championship will feature four matches daily, with the semi-finals scheduled for Dec 29 and the final on Dec 30. The opening match will pit defending champion Wapda against Karachi.
