LAHORE: The agriculture department says the government will announce wheat prices at harvest time.

A spokesperson for the department says certain elements are misleading growers by claiming that the provincial government will procure wheat at the rate of Rs2,800 per 40kg.

Reports about the release of existing wheat stocks are being distorted and wrongly linked to the price of the upcoming crop which is entirely false and unfounded, he says, clarifying that the price of Rs2,900 per 40kg has been set solely for the release of existing official stocks stored at the warehouses of the food department to ensure the availability of flour to the public at reasonable rates. However, this pricing has no connection to the rates for the upcoming wheat harvest.

The spokesperson says the government will take appropriate measures during the harvest time to ensure the growers receive fair profits for their hard work.
