LAHORE: The divisional administration has identified encroachments and unlawful parking among major reasons for traffic congestion around markets and directed the deputy commissioners to hold meetings with the local traders in their respective districts to resolve the issue.

“Mainly there are two reasons that create hurdles in smooth traffic flow. These are temporary encroachments and parking of vehicles at the places other than those allocated for the purpose,” Lahore Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood said while presiding over a meeting here on Thursday.

“In this regard, traders can help you a lot. Therefore, you must start holding meetings with the traders’ union and representatives in a bid to remove encroachments and ensure parking at the designated areas,” he added.

On this occasion, the traders’ representatives led by Anjuman Tajiran’s secretary Mr Naeem discussed various issues pertaining to major markets of Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.

They urged the commissioner to focus on removal of encroachments, while expressing satisfaction over the ongoing solid waste removal operations in the markets.

However, they were of the view that the respective administrations must take the traders on board while launching operations against encroachments and illegal parking.

COMPLAINTS: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) received 1,014 complaints of various types and redressed 1,006 of these on the spot, claims the company’s CEO.

Lesco CEO Engineer Shahid Haider told the media here on Thursday that the company is continuing with open courts on the instructions of power division, to solving the problems faced by the consumers with regard to electricity bills etc, immediately.

He says all sub-divisional officers, along with their respective teams are holding regular public hearings in their jurisdictions on a daily basis.
