National junior badminton reaches finals stage

LAHORE: Semi-finals of the U-15, 17 and U-19 competitions in the National Junior Badminton Championship were held here at the Nishtar Sports Complex on Thursday.

Abdul Haseeb and Muhammad Rayan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached the U-15 boys’ singles final.

Punjab’s Mohammad Suleman and Hamdullah of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa qualified for the boys’ U-17 decider while Sarwat Fatima of Army and Punjab’s Romesa Faisal reached the U-17 girls’ singles final.

Mohammad Ahmed Gujjar of Punjab faces Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohammad Hashir in the U-19 boys’ singles final while Kanzul Eman of Punjab takes on Army’s Ammarah Ishtiaq in the ladies’ final.

In the U-19 men’s doubles semi-finals, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa pair of Najam Us Saqib and Mohammad Zaid beat the KP duo of Mohammad Umer and Mohammad Hashir 21-12, 21-12 while Fahad Ahmed and Hamadullah beat Abdul Haseeb and Mohammad Taimur 21-23, 21-7, 21-9 in another all-KP affair.

Sindh’s pair of Mariyam Hanif and Mariyam Hamza defeated the Army duo of Ammarah Ishtiaq-Sarwat Fatima 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 while the Punjab’s Tayyaba Shafiq and Kanzul Eman overcame their province-mates Amna Akhtar and Tasmia Uresh 21-15, 22-20 in the U-19 women’s doubles semi-finals.

U-17 boys’ singles: Mohammad Suleman (Islamabad) bt Hussain Shahzad (Punjab) 21-19, 21-17; Hammadullah (KP) bt Ibad Khan (Sindh) 21-13, 21-19

U-19 men’s singles: Mohammad Hashir (KP) bt Mohammad Tahir Subhani (Punjab) 14-21, 21-16, 21-19; Mohammad Ahmed Gujjar (Punjab) bt Mohammad Taimur (KP) 21-16, 21-19.

U-19 women’s singles: Kanzul Eman (Punjab) bt Mariyam Hanif (Sindh) 21-16, 21-19; Ammarah Ishtiaq (Army) bt Hiba Tariq (Army) 21-15, 21-9
