RAWALPINDI: Police detained a motorcycle rider for hurling threats of dire consequences on a female traffic warden when he was stopped for violating the traffic signal at Shalimar Chowk on Friday.

A spokesman for the traffic police said a citizen who violated the signal and misbehaved with a female traffic warden had been detained by the police. On the instructions of the CTO, legal action was initiated against the motorcyclist.

The motorcycle rider was arrested for endangering the lives of citizens by breaking the signal and abusing a female traffic police officer, said the spokesman.

CTO Beenish Fatima ordered strict action against the suspect who also made a video. The CTO has taken strict notice of the incident, saying harassment of law enforcement personnel was intolerable.

The City Traffic Police appealed to citizens for cooperation and law enforcement personnel to ensure their own safety and smooth flow of traffic. “Citizens’ safety and rule of law are our top priority,” the CTO said.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man who was selling fake currency at Kamran Market Saddar and recovered 440,000 Afghan currency notes. Initial investigation showed that two other persons, residents of Multan and Faisalabad, were partners of the arrested man.

In another incident, a police official was injured critically after being hit by a motorcycle on Murree Road opposite the old Naz Cinema.

Police said Mohammad Ali, a constable posted at R.A. Bazaar, was going home after completing his duty when he was hit and injured by the bike. The injured was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).
