KARACHI: The Government was making all-out efforts to redeem its pledge to the nation to provide “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan” to the people, Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said. … Addressing the people … [Mr] Bhutto said that the road to Socialism ... alone could ensure progress and prosperity for the people... . He said providing “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan” … was a colossal task which could not be accomplished overnight. “We have to banish poverty from Khyber to Karachi and raise the living standard of [millions of] people. Unless the people understand the new system, uphold it by conviction, the new system cannot function properly and there can be no progress in the country.”

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Rawalpindi,] the Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan, Mr Lu Wei-chao, said today [Dec 27] that the Chinese people were proud of Pakistan and wish to offer all assistance within their means and power. “We consider this our national duty, particularly so because we know that the Government and the people of Pakistan have always helped the Chinese people,” he added. … He wished Pakistan prosperity and strength.
