HYDERABAD: The suspect who had tried to extort Rs300,000 from Prof Dr Imran Shaikh, head of the medicine department at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, was arrested on Friday night. He had been threatening the professor with dire consequences through WhatsApp messages.

According to Hyderabad SSP Dr Farrukh Ali, the suspect, Muzaffar Ahmed, is associated with a pharmaceutical company and had been threatening some other doctors in a similar manner. The man was picked up in Latifabad. The suspect was using a SIM registered in the name of a widow, also associated with the same profession. The police reached the suspect with her cooperation, the SSP said.
