SAHIWAL: A dacoity suspect died in Yousafwala police custody on Thursday.

SHO AD Shaheen said Asghar, 45, of village 63/5-L, was a nominated suspect in a dacoity case.

The suspect had been remanded in police custody. While being shifted to the district police office for fingerprint verification alongside other suspects, Asghar reportedly experienced severe pain.

Police claimed he was rushed to Haji Qayyum District Headquarters Hospital, where he died in the emergency ward.

Civil Line police initiated an investigation and got completed the postmortem. Later, the body was returned to Yousafwala police. Meanwhile, police sources attributed the death to a heart attack, and forensic analysis of the suspect’s organs has been requested from Lahore.

INSPECTION: Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mahmood inspected multiple sites in Sahiwal to review progress on the Asian Development Bank-funded Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement and Investment Program (PICIIP).

The DC visited key sites such as Gool Chakar, Comprehensive Chowk, Madhali Road and College Chowk, where an 8-foot-wide sinkhole recently disrupted road construction.

The road from College Chowk to Mall Mandi is being widened from 20 feet to a 52-foot one-way route. DC Mahmood directed contractors and resident engineers to ensure timely and quality work to reduce inconvenience to residents. He also inspected the wastewater treatment plant and urged its swift completion to benefit the public.
