WATER SHORTAGE

WATER SHORTAGE: Over the last few months, the water crisis in Karachi has worsened, leaving many parts of the city with inadequate or no water supply. A number of households rely solely on water tankers for their daily needs. However, these services are both costly and irregular. Waterborne diseases are becoming more common because people are forced to rely on water that is not potable. The situation is not only affecting the quality of life, but is also straining the already stretched healthcare facilities. The authorities should address the root cause of this problem and restore regular water supply across the city.

MARKS CERTIFICATE: My younger sister, who has recently completed a bachelor’s in science (BS) degree in Mathematics from the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad, has not received her marks certificate yet. The date of declaration of result was Aug 28, but she is still waiting to receive the certificate without which she is unable to appear in walk-in interviews in search for employment. It is disappointing that a university in the capital territory takes so much time to fulfil a mere formality.

BUS ROUTES: In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, metro bus service follows two routes: from Saddar to Secretariat, and from the N5 station to Faiz Ahmed Faiz underpass. Those taking the latter route face inconvenience and have to take another bus to reach the Secretariat. Unfortunately, this process is rather time-consuming. Route 1 should be from the N5 station to Secretariat, while the second route should be from Saddar to Secretariat. Besides, senior citizens often find it difficult to purchase tickets due to the counter’s inaccessible location as well as non-functional escalator. To address the issue and ease the woes faced by the senior citizens, a digital token system can be considered which would make buying tickets convenient for all passengers.
