Four-day National Blind Games draw to a close

ISLAMABAD: The third edition of the National Blind Games 2024 concluded with great fanfare at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Sunday.

The blind athletes from across Pakistan showcased their resilience, strength and determination in four-day event.

The games brought together exceptional athletes from across the country, competing in diverse sports including blind football, blind judo, blind archery, braille chess, athletics and blind baseball.

Leadership from the Pakistan Blind Sports Federation (PBSF) including President Mohammad Waqas, General Secretary Salman Elahi, Vice President Shahzad Javed, General Manager Bilal Javed and PBSF’s marketing head Khaleel Ahmed were present on the occasion.

Chief Guest Imtiaz Sheikh and Ashraf Azeem lauded the performance of players and distributed medals and trophies among the winner and runners-up.

According to the results, Gilgit-Baltistan emerged victorious in the blind baseball category, with Azad Jammu and Kashmir, runner-up.

In the blind judo category, Shumaila from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was gold medalist while the silver medal was won by Saba from Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Zumra Rafeeq from Islamabad won the bronze medal.

In Braille Chess, Rashid Nisar from Punjab was the gold medalist, Aamir Ijaz, also from Punjab, bagged silver and Aneela Shahzadi from Punjab won bronze.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Waseem Khan won the gold medal in blind archery while Usama Hashmi from AJK won silver and Usama Khan from KP clinched bronze. Similarly, in the female blind archery event, Islamabad’s Wajiha won gold medal after defeating Saba from AJK who got silver. The bronze medal was won by Zainab from Sindh.

In Athletics, B1 100 meters in male event, Adnan bagged gold, Moin won silver while Mubashir won bronze. In Athletics – B2 200 meters (male category) Manan won gold medal after defeating Waseem, who was awarded silver while bronze medal was clinched by Usman.

Similarly, in Athletics – B1 100 meters female event, gold medal was won by Qandeer, Shumaila got silver and Fatima secured the bronze medal. In Athletics – B2 100 meters female contest, Kiran won gold while Hira and Nimra won silver and bronze medals respectively.
