BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Governor/Chancellor has summoned for personal hearing the suspended vice-chancellor of the Nishtar Medical University, Multan, Prof Dr Mehnaz Khakwani, on Tuesday in Lahore.

The governor summoned the VC for her personal hearing on a summary sent to him (governor) for her removal from the VC office by Punjab health department on the orders of the Punjab chief minister.

The summary for her removal pertains to her alleged negligence in which dialysis patients were infected by HIV.

The Punjab CM has also suspended six doctors, including the Nishtar MS.

Dr Khakwani has been accused of showing negligence in implementing SOPs in respect of the treatment of patients in the departments of nephrology and pathology, being head of the university.

Sources said the governor wanted to give the VC another chance of her personal hearing before any action against her.

IUB: The Islamia University, Bahawalpur’s institute of business, management and administrative sciences organised a recruitment drive for final-semester undergraduate and postgraduate students.

According to an IUB press release, three leading companies participated in the event, offering career opportunities to bright minds from the region.

Over 60 students appeared for interviews and 10 of them were placed in different organisations.

Prior to this initiative, IBMAS had facilitated the placement of 20 students in various roles.

LODHRAN: Deputy Commissioner Lodhran Ms Lubna Nazir has asked the health department to appoint para-medical staff in three shifts of morning, evening and night to ensure round-the-clock provision of medical facilities to inmates of the District Jail, Lodhran.

During her jail inspection on Sunday, the DC also recommended the health department to conduct health screening of new prisoners at the time of their entry into jail.
