LAHORE: The Punjab chief minister has approved 35 new posts of the health professionals for the gynaecology department of the Lahore General Hospital.

Ameer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof. Dr. M. Al-Fareed Zafar said here on Sunday that the new posts were created for the Gynaecology Unit-III of the LGH.

He said the step was initiated following the increase in the number of patients visiting the gynaecology department of the teaching hospital.

Mr Zafar said the maternity & child department has assumed a greater significance and declared the Punjab CM’s decision a need of the time to resolve the health needs of women.

He said that the approval of the new posts is a reflection of the fact that the government is paying special attention to the health of mothers and infants because children are the valuable asset of any nation and only healthy mothers give birth to healthy children.

Of the new posts approved by the finance department, one position was of professor of grade 20 and associate professor of grade 19.

Similarly, two posts of assistant professors, five of senior registrars, 11 of medical officers, two head nurses and 13 new charge nurses were also created.
