RAWALPINDI: Police will register cases of terrorism against those involved in firing in the air while the ban on one-wheeling and display of fireworks will be strictly implemented during the new year celebrations.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani has warned revelers that cases of terrorism will be registered against anyone involved in firing in the air, a police spokesman said on Monday.

Police have chalked out an effective security plan for the protection of citizens, prevention of firing in the air, fireworks and one-wheeling.

As part of the security plan, more than 6600 police personnel and over 800 traffic wardens will perform security and traffic duties.

Moreover, 32 special pickets will be established across the city to prevent one-wheeling.

The spokesman said that on the instructions of the CPO the police had made an effective security plan for the protection of the citizens.

Additional police pickets have been set up in the limits of all police stations to prevent firing in the air and fireworks. Firing in the air, fireworks and wheelie are banned and strict legal action will be taken against the violators, he said. Dolphin Force, security squad and police station mobiles will be on duty round-the-clock. Effective security arrangements have also been made for worship places of the Christian community.

Meanwhile, Naseerabad police arrested a man after recovery of a large consignment of fireworks from his possession which he had bought for the new year celebrations. The police said that its officials stopped a vehicle on suspicion and during a search recovered different types of fireworks along with pistols and shells from the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded by the police. The police said raids were underway to arrest the accomplices of the suspect. SP Potohar Nasir Nawaz said strict action would be taken against those who put the lives of citizens at danger.
