RAWALPINDI: A man was gunned down allegedly by his friend over a monetary dispute in Mohanpura area on Tuesday.

Gulfam, a resident of Mohanpura, lodged an FIR with the police saying that he along with Abdullah and Asif Mehmood were going home after finishing their job at about 4:40am when he saw his brother Fahim with his friend Hadi standing on the street and discussing some issue.

He said during the discussion, Hadi suddenly started abusing his brother, and within no time pulled out his pistol and fired shots at himand sped off on his motorcycle. Gulfam said Fahim was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where he died. The motive behind the murder was a dispute over money.

Meanwhile, police detained three suspected robbers after they were injured during an encounter with the police while attempting to escape with a snatched motorcycle in Saddar Bairooni area late Monday night.

The encounter took place when the Saddar Bairooni police was conducting a snap checking on the information of motorcycle snatching. As the police signaled the suspects to stop, they opened fire and in the encounter the three robbers were injured and subsequently arrested.

A police spokesman said a motorcycle snatched from a citizen was recovered from the suspects. A car was also recovered from them which they had snatched from Saddar Bairooni area at gunpoint four days ago. The suspects were later shifted to the hospital.
