SAHIWAL: This is the second time the scheduled meeting of the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) for Sargodha and Rawalpindi male and female principal’s candidates was postponed by the Higher Education Department on Friday.

Earlier, the meeting was schedule to be held on Jan 01 but it was postponed on Jan 31.

The HED announced Jan 4 as the next date but, under a new notification, the GRC meeting was cancelled. The meeting was set to be held tomorrow at the Higher Education Department to address the grievances of principals who had applied for vacant principal positions in male and female public sector colleges in the Rawalpindi and Sargodha divisions.

The GRC is comprised of the Additional Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and other high-ranking officials from the HED.

Dr Sher Muhammad, Senior Vice President of PPLA Punjab, told Dawn from Sargodha that 125 candidates have filed grievances upon more than 65 vacant principal positions in public sector colleges of both divisions.

Reports indicate that around 400 principal positions in over 800 public sector colleges are currently vacant across Punjab.

The Higher Education Department (HED) initiated a process to fill these vacant positions through an online portal. However, many candidates have raised concerns about the automated calculation of their merit marks, which are often determined by the sitting principals of the respective colleges.

Meanwhile, Minster for Higher Education Rana Sikander Hayat is conducting interviews of principals for the vacant posts of principals in Lahore Division.
