HARIPUR: Thirty-five girl students were honoured with commendation certificates and tablets for their best performance in the recently announced secondary school certificate examination results, and winning the nomination for the provincial government’s Satori da Pakhtunkhwa scholarship programme here on Friday.

A ceremony to this effect was held at the office of district education officer (girls).

Additional deputy commissioner Dr Anam Latif was the chief guest.

These students obtained A-1 grades in the annual results of grade 10 declared by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Abbottabad.

As per scholarship programme’s policy, the provincial government would bear the expenses of the nominees till completion of their intermediate in the next two years.

Speaking at the ceremony, DEO Shagufta Jabeen said that it was for the first time that 35 girl students from government schools of Haripur had been nominated for the scholarship, which showed the improved performance of public sector schools.

She told the participants that the girl students had also brought home 12 titles of provincial champions of different sport competitions held in December.

Additional deputy commissioner Anam Latif appreciated the efforts of teachers and students that helped the district excel both in curricular and extracurricular activities.
