LAHORE: Hi Volt, a chestnut colt, lived up to expectations by winning the prestigious Makhdumzada Syed Hassan Mahmud Memorial New Year Cup here at the Lahore Winter race meeting on Sunday.

The three-year-old thoroughbred, owned by M. Abubakar Attique Durrani and trained by Rashid Latif, defeated bay colt Sultan in the 1400-metre race. Bay colt Perfect Again and chestnut filly Dilbar finished third and fourth, respectively.

Jockey Awais Anjum rode the winner with precision, securing a thrilling victory.

In the supporting event, the Ghazanvi Cup, bay horse J.K. emerged victorious, defeating chestnut Brooklyn over 1200 metres. Owned by Syed Atif Ashfaq Shah and trained by M. Afzal, the winner was partnered by jockey Safdar Ali.
