THATTA: The Sujawal police on Sunday said that the iPhones looted by muggers from a Polish couple, currently on a cycling tour of 10 countries, were recovered and handed over to the victims. One suspect was arrested, they said.

Kowalczyk Jakuo Tomasz and his spouse Scantamburlo Mae Elisabeth were paddling through the Sujawal bypass when they were robbed of their belongings, including iPhones, by three muggers last Sunday (December 29, 2024).

A police team led by SSP Sujawal Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada had immediately started efforts to track down the culprits with the help of CCTV camera footages and modern technology.

The efforts led to the arrest of one suspect, Nadeem Obaro. The police claimed having recovered the two iPhones, besides the crime weapon, from his possession.

Soon after the incident, the Hyderabad DIG had issued strict instructions to the SSP for the recovery of the booty and arrest of the culprits. The in-charge of the Thatta District Intelligence Bureau, Inspector Abdul Haq Baran, was placed under suspension to face an inquiry.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had also taken a serious notice of the incident, which had taken place in broad daylight, i.e. between 1pm and 2pm.

Local reporters had suggested that the couple had also lost their bags and an amount of around Rs72,000 to the muggers.
