Man who killed his polio-affected daughter dies

BAHAWALPUR: The man who had allegedly killed his polio-affected daughter the other day before attempting suicide in Lodhran expired at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) on Monday.

Muhammad Ismail had slit the throats of his 23-year-old daughter Mussarat and 25-year-old son Khalid before attempting to kill himself with the same knife. He and his son were shifted to the emergency department of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where he expired. Ismail was a resident of Basti Luniwala Adda on Shujabad Road in district Lodhran.

According to the BVH doctors, Ismail’s body was handed over to police after his postmortem while Khalid was still in critical condition. Lodhran City police, on the complaint of the deceased’s second son Ijaz, had registered a murder case against Ismail.

ARRESTED: Lodhran police arrested 50 people on charge of gambling in the suburbs of the city.

According to a district police spokesman, a crackdown was launched in Mohallah Koriwala and Mohalla Qasimwala where gambling was happening along with music at wedding parties.

Police claimed the suspects were betting with UAE Dirham, Saudi Riyals and dollars.

The police teams seized Rs200,000 besides the foreign currency, a car and a motorcycle. A huge stock of fireworks was recovered from the houses. Those arrested included Mazhar Iqbal, Danish, Usman and others nominated in two FIRs. Besides, police said about 12 unidentified persons managed to flee from the scene.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man on charge of drug trafficking and recovered over one kilogram heroin from his possession. He was identified as Shaukat Baloch.
