Undesirable activities

IN Saudi Arabia, 100 illegal foreigners, including 21 Pakistani nationals, were executed last year after they were found involved in criminal activities. During the last couple of years, several incidents of Pakistani nationals involved in illegal activities, such as overstaying, begging and drug trafficking, have been reported. The Saudi government has strict laws for foreigners, therefore individuals who overstay or indulge in illegal activities face serious consequences, including imprisonment, fines and deportation.

Involvement in illegal activities by Pakistani nationals in Saudi Arabia creates a perception that Pakistanis are involved in unlawful activities and criminal behaviour.

The undesirable behaviour of some Pakistanis there creates difficulties not only for those seeking legitimate emp-loyment opportunities, but also affects diplomatic relations between the two countries. It can also lead to the imposition of stricter visa policies, which could reduce the number of persons working abroad and sending remittances to contr-ibute to the country’s economy.

This alarming situation needs imme-diate attention of the relevant authorities. They should take necessary measures, like a strict vetting process for workers travelling abroad, and proper interro-gation at the time of immigration.
