Illegal structures razed in Wazirabad

GUJRAT: The local administration on Wednesday removed encroachments along Sialkot and GT roads in Wazirabad city to clear the hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic.

Being led by Gujranwala additional deputy commissioner general Faisal Sultan and Wazirabad assistant commissioner Rab Nawaz Chadhar, a team launched the operation along city’s main artery Wazirabad-Sialkot road where illegal encroachments have been hindering the traffic flow since long.

The commuters from Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum and Hafizabad would use the Wazirabad-Sialkot road to reach the Sialkot International Airport and the traffic usually gets choked at the railway flyover connecting the old GT road to Sialkot road.

An official said the dilapidated Wazirabad road and the old GT road had recently been rehabilitated and the illegal encroachments had been removed to beautify the city as per directions by Gujranwala deputy commissioner Naveed Ahmed who also holds the additional charge of Wazirabad DC.

The anti-encroachment squad used the heavy machinery to remove the concrete structures in front of shops and markets, structures over the roadside drains, kiosks, handcarts and other such material.

The Wazirabad AC said the operation clean-up would continue on a regular basis to keep the city clean as well as ensuring the smooth traffic flow.

He said the efforts were part of chief minister’s initiative of Suthra (clean) Punjab programme.

GUNNED DOWN: Twopersons , including a passerby woman, were gunned down in Nagrian Chowk of Sabor village in the precincts of Kakarali police on Wednesday.

Reports said Shahid Iqbal Gujjar of Doiyan village was on his way back home when armed men, including Ali Butt and Mohsin Gujjar, opened firing at him. Resultantly Shahid and a woman Asiya Amjad of Chodowal village who was passing through the area, were killed on the spot whereas the assailants fled the scene.

Police reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy.

A team of Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also reached the scene and collected evidence.

Initial police investigation revealed that the deceased had an altercation with the assailants in the bazaar of Kotla Arab Ali Khan and the suspects later shot him dead.

However, police said raiding teams were constituted to trace and arrest the suspects and it had launched the investigation whereas police are yet to register the case of double murder.
