SUKKUR: The Sukkur Electric Power Company cut power supply to 323 government facilities during an operation aimed at stopping electricity theft and recovering dues of Rs38 billion.
The Sepco personnel aided by police and federal institutions disconnected power supply in 10 districts to government institutions including Sukkur Barrage, Sukkur Municipal Corporation, streetlights, irrigation department, Wapda Scarp, Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College Hostel etc.
Sources in Municipal Corporation said that streetlights in Sukkur city on Airport Road, Military Road, Shikarpur Road, Bandar Road, Minara Road and other roads had remained off.
Sepco CEO Eijaz Ahmed Channa said that 323 connections to Sindh government departments had been cut in the districts of Shikarpur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Kandhkot-Kashmore, Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Dadu and Jacobabad. The Sindh government, which owed the company Rs38bn, had itself recommended disconnecting electricity supply to irrigation colonies and Wapda Scarp colonies, he said.
