ISLAMABAD: Suspects escaped with an official sub machine gun (SMG) of the capital police on Monday, police said.

A police officer told Dawn that the incident took place at I.J.P Road near Wheat Godown where four-member Dolphin Squad was deployed at a picket on the I.J.P Road.

They set up a picket near the Wheat Godown where three persons riding on a motorcycle appeared, he said, adding that on suspicion the police personnel signaled them to stop. However, they started firing on them when reached close to them.

The police personnel ran away in panic to save their lives while leaving behind their weapons and motorcycles on the spot, the officer said, adding that while running away from the spot one of the officials fell on the road and sustained bruises.

Later, the suspects took an official SMG and escaped towards Faizabad, he added.
