LAHORE: The district administration on Wednesday successfully removed nomads from nine of the 24 identified encroachment points across various areas during ongoing city-wide operations.

In the Model Town tehsil, operations cleared nine points, while work continues at the remaining 15. In tehsil Allama Iqbal, 784 nomadic encampments have been evacuated, and in tehsil City, 266 out of 294 encampments were cleared. Similarly, in tehsil Wagah Zone, 40 encampments were removed.

Tehsil Nishtar Zone saw the clearance of 11 out of 14 points, with active operations at the remaining three. In tehsil Sadar, rigorous evacuation operations were conducted, while in tehsil Cantt, 168 encampments were cleared. Tehsil Shalimar reported the removal of 378 encampments, with work continuing. In tehsil Raiwind, four out of 12 points have been cleared, with the rest scheduled for removal soon.

Deputy Commissioner Musa Raza, highlighted the importance of these operations for maintaining city cleanliness and aesthetics. He stated that administrative officers were conducting robust field activities to ensure the relocation of nomads and the removal of encroachments, contributing to a cleaner and more organized Lahore.

He also conducted visits to various locations in the Nishtar Zone, where he reviewed a development scheme at Gajjumatta.

During the visit, Assistant Commissioner of Nishtar Zone, Muhammad Saleem Aasi, briefed the DC on the progress of the development scheme and ongoing cleanliness and anti-encroachment measures on Kahna Kacha Road and Kamahan Road.

The DC instructed that garbage be immediately transferred to designated dumping sites and urged a comprehensive strategy to eliminate encroachments. He also directed the removal of roadside vendors from Kamahan Road, stressing that carts should not obstruct traffic.
