NAROWAL: Two gunmen were killed in an alleged police encounter on Sunday, while one of their accomplices fled in Sialkot.

Daska Sadar police sub-inspector Jahanzeb Ahmad reported to the police that he was on regular patrol when a call on the police helpline was received about a robbery.

Three robbers had looted valuables from a man near Village Malike and later fled towards Anod Bridge on a motorcycle. On being alerted, he, along with a police team, arrived at Anod Bridge.

The three suspects riding a motorcycle started firing at the police team. The police officials, taking cover behind the police vehicle, retaliated by firing at the gunmen. When the guns fell silent, a search operation found two gunmen seriously injured.

Their third accomplice fled, taking advantage of the darkness and fog.

The injured suspects were being taken to Daska Hospital by Rescue 1122; however, they were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The Daska Sadar police registered an FIR against the absconding suspect.

A spokesperson for the district police said that the suspects were killed by the firing of their accomplice.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Nadeem and Akhtar Hussain, both of Pakpattan. They were wanted in more than two dozen cases committed in different districts of Punjab.
