KARACHI: The Karachi Basketball Scrutiny Committee, led by chairman Ashfaq Ahmed, has announced on Sunday the Karachi Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place in late January.

This development comes amidst a controversy surrounding the recent Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) elections, which Ashfaq’s scrutiny committee deemed illegal due to serious irregularities.

The KBBA, however, defended the elections, citing the clubs’ affiliation with the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) as the basis for their legitimacy.

The championship, open to all basketball clubs, aims to promote basketball and scrutinise clubs in Karachi.

According to the press release, interested clubs must confirm participation by Jan 20. The tournament will be hosted at three venues: the LOB Basketball Court, Hill Park Basketball Court and KMC Sports Complex.

The event will aim to identify Karachi’s basketball talent and finalise club registrations. Following the championship, the scrutiny committee will complete the registration process.
