LAHORE: The federal government and the office of the attorney general (AG) for Pakistan have disassociated themselves from a complaint filed before the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) by a law officer against a senior judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

A statement issued by the secretary of the attorney general office said the government and the attorney general office condemned the illegal and irresponsible act of Assistant Attorney General (AAG) Sheraz Zaka for filing a complaint against a senior honourable judge of the LHC before the SJC in his official capacity.

“It is misconduct on the part of assistant attorney-general, the allegations levelled by him are totally frivolous, false, misstatement of facts, fabricated and based on ulterior motives,” it added.

It further stated that the attorney general office disassociates itself from any false allegations leveled in the reference filed before the SJC as reported in the newspaper.

It asserted that the attorney general for Pakistan had no concern with the reference in question.

The statement said the government and the AG office have taken serious notice of the act of an individual law officer, who, without information and permission, took such an irresponsible and unprofessional step.

It said a strict disciplinary action shall be taken against the assistant attorney general for misusing his official capacity.

AAG Zaka filed a complaint with the SJC against Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza of the LHC accusing him of favouring an oil marketing company by extending a stay order on an inquiry by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for the last seven years.
