LARKANA: Six policemen suffered injuries when their mobile van overturned after criminals fleeing in a car fired at the vehicle’s tyres to stop it from chasing them on Ratodero-Shahdadkot road on Saturday.

The injured cops identified as Majid Ali Jhatiyal, Nisar Ahmed Buriro, Shahid Hussain Magsi, Imran Ali Arabani, Rashid Ali Hesbani and Mujahid Hussain were immediately rushed to the Trauma Centre, Larkana, while the suspects sped away, said police officials.

Police spotted the car at Toll Plaza on Shahdadkot road on a tip-off about the criminals’ travelling in it and chased it but the suspects opened fire, said spokesman for Larkana SSP. The bullets deflated the van’s tyres and caused it to overturn, resulting in injuries to all the six policemen, he added.

SSP (headquarters) Haseeb Jawed Soomar Memon reached the Trauma Centre and inquired after the health of the injured policemen. An FIR had been registered at Ratodero police station, said the spokesman.

In another incident, a policeman Mohammad Ismail Brohi was injured in an encounter with criminals in the jurisdiction of Sanjar Bhatti police station, Qambar-Shahdadkot district, late on Friday night. He was also shifted to the Trauma Centre.
