CHARSADDA: Rivals gunned down a man and his son, who were coming back to home in a car after appearing in a court in a land dispute case here on Monday.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Mandani police station.

Later, relatives, residents and political activists placed the bodies on road at the Mandani Chowk and blocked it to traffic for three hours. The protesters demanded arrest of the culprits.

Abdul Akbar, a resident of Swato Kalay Mandani area, reported to the police in injured condition that he was travelling in a car along with his brother, Marifat Shah, and the latter’s sons, Yasir and Ishaq, and a nephew, Tahseenullah.

He said they were returning home after attending a court hearing when assailants riding on motorcycles opened fire at their car. He identified the attackers as Yahya and Abdullah, brothers and residents of Spinkay Tangi, Bilal of Ambar Kalay, and Noor Khan of Thana Kalay. As a result of the firing, Marifat Shah and his son, Yasir died on the spot, while his other son, Ishaq and nephew Tahseenullah were seriously injured.

Akbar said the motive behind the attack was a land dispute.

The Mandani police registered a double murder case against the nominated accused on Akbar’s complaint and initiated an investigation.

Meanwhile, the Mazdur Kisan Party workers and other people blocked the road, demanding arrest of the killers.

Subsequently, the police negotiated with the leaders of the protesters, and after the police assurance that the accused would be arrested within three days the protesters lifted the bodies and reopened the road to traffic.
