KARACHI: A man drowned in a drain in the Saudabad area on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.

Saudabad SHO Zamir Ahmed Khuhawar said Saleem Baig, 50, was on a motorbike when he fell inside a roadside nullah. Edhi foundation divers rescued him and he was taken to a nearby government hospital where he was declared dead.

The officer said the heirs termed it an ‘accident’ and told the police that they didn’t want any legal proceedings.

The victim was an estate agent in the Alfalah area.

Talha Khan, the chairman of the union committee concerned, told the media that he had written a letter to the Karachi mayor and other authorities while the town council had also passed a resolution, demanding covering of the drain to prevent any further ‘eventuality’.
