HARIPUR: The new cabinet of the Haripur Press Club was elected for the period 2024-26 here on Wednesday.

According to election results, the press club members elected Zakir Hussain Tanoli as the president (37 votes) and Hafiz Javedul Haq as the general secretary (38 votes).

The other office-bearers-elect included senior vice president Arshad Mehmood Boby, vice presidents Malik Jamil Khan and Qazi Nisar Ahmed, joint secretary Mehmood Akhtar and coordination secretary Shehzad Tanoli. Mohammad Ishaq Khan and Ishaq Rajput have already been elected office secretary and finance secretary respectively unopposed.

The elections were held on the orders of the local labour court following the press club’s registration under the Industrial Relations Act, 2010, with regional information officer Ikramullah Shahid acting as the chairman of the election commission and District Bar Association president Asad Saeed Khanand advocate Saifullah Khan Qureshi as members. They’re deputed by the labour court.

The electoral exercise was observed by former minister Qazi Mohammad Asad Khan, former provincial assembly members Dr Faiza Rasheed and Gohar Nawaz Khan, civil society activists and local government members.
