TRAFFIC POLICE

TRAFFIC POLICE: As part of the ongoing construction for the Red Line bus service on University Road, several pedestrian bridges have been removed. In the absence of dedicated traffic policemen, crossing the road becomes very dangerous for students, especially considering the heavy traffic on the road. The government should post traffic policemen at points where the students have to cross the road, and ensure everyone’s safety.

VIOLENT PEOPLE: I went to Marora Goth in Karachi recently, and saw some men beating two young boys while calling them robbers. A huge crowd gathered later and everyone started beating those so-called robbers. As such, the young boys did not have a weapon, and nobody knew them. How can people be so violent when someone is not proven guilty? Unfortunately, we have seen many incidents where innocent people are being beaten up, tortured and, even in some cases, killed. Thankfully, the police reached the spot and took over the matter. It is time the people of Karachi changed their attitude, and thought twice before getting infuriated and behaving violently.

UNIVERSITY BOYCOTT: The ongoing suspension of academic activities at the University of Karachi is a matter that deserves the immediate attention of the relevant quarters. Students from various provinces come to the university, and the cancellation of classes causes them undue trouble. Immediate action should be taken to put things back on rails.

MISPLACED PRIORITIES: Instead of stopping vehicles for fancy number plates and tinted windows, the traffic police should focus on over-speeding vehicles, wrong-way driving and heavy vehicles being driven by maniacs. The right focus could save many lives and perhaps bring some normalcy on the roads. It is all a matter of misplaced priorities.
