QUETTA: A police constable was gunned down by unknown armed men on Manu Jan Road in the provincial capital on Thursday.

According to police, Constable Mehboob Shah was targeted by armed motorcyclists while returning home after completing his duty. Soon after receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the scene and shifted him to Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Rabia Tariq, the public relations officer at the IG police office, said Constable Shah was returning from his duty at the United Nations office in Chaman Housing Society. Pol­ice termed the incident target killing and registered a case against unknown assailants. No group has clai­med responsibility for the killing.

In another incident, armed men killed a person in Noshki town. The victim, identified as Tariq Mengal, was driving through the Killi Mengal area, on the outskirts of Noshki, when motorcyclists opened fire on his car, killing him on the spot.

His body was taken to the Noshki District Hospital, where medico-legal formalities were completed before the body was handed over to his family.

The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained. Police have registered a case against the unknown assailants and launched an investigation.
