Judge orders release of 12 prisoners in Haripur

HARIPUR: District and Sessions Judge, Haripur, Ms Shehnaz Hameed Khattak, on Friday ordered the release of 12 inmates during a camp court held at the central prison here.

The judge also visited different barracks of the jail.

Jail superintendent Hamid Azam Khan said the district judge held a camp court and reviewed the detention of 12 inmates arrested and jailed for petty offenses. The judge disposed of the cases of all the 12 inmates and ordered their immediate release.

Meanwhile, the judge visited the jail hospital, juvenile and women sections and examined the facilities provided to the prisoners.

The jail superintendent briefed the judge about the steps that the prison department has taken to help inmates return to society and their families as law-abiding and productive citizens.

The district judge also met the inmates and listened to their problems and complaints, and issued directives for redressal on the occasion.

She eulogised the arrangements that the prison department made for the welfare of inmates, especially their education and skill development.
