SCAPEGOATING PENSIONERS: The country’s economic woes run deep because the challenges are institutionally embedded and systematic in nature. Penalising pensioners is a superficial policy strategy that diverts attention from the root causes of the malaise. Pensioners, already on fixed incomes, are particularly hit hard. Deeply entrenched, multi-causal and systematic crises require multidimensional, comprehensive, and systemic solutions; scapegoating and penalising pensioners reflect a myopic and truncated policymaking vision.

WILD BOARS ON ROADS: I recently had a terrible experience while driving to the passport office in G-8, Islamabad at around 9am. Two wild boars appeared abruptly in front of my car, and I managed to swerve just in time to avoid hitting them. Islamabad has seen a significant increase in the population of stray dogs and wild boars, particularly in areas like G-8, H-11 and Naval Anchorage. Residents have filed dozens of complaints, but no concrete action has been taken. Walking at night, especially with child-ren, has become difficult. The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) should take immediate action to resolve the issue.

GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL: As I entered into a government hospital in Quetta to have a follow-up with my doctor, I was shocked to see a nurse shouting at an old man. The old man, in fact, was already struggling to get appointment of a relevant medical practitioner, and the shouting left him in a state of disarray. Another patient appeared worried as he was advised to get his blood test done from a private hospital. Despite getting billions in funds, the hospital does not have appropriate X-ray and blood test facilities. Such problems persist in all government hospitals. The way doctors and nurses behave with patients is another serious issue. Government officials must visit public hospitals from time to time to check the pathetic state of affairs.
