LAKKI MARWAT: An archery competition held under the banner of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Awami Sports Gala initiative concluded here on Saturday.

The district sports office arranged the traditional game event in the Paharkhel Thall area near the Lakki city on the directives of deputy commissioner Zeeshan Abdullah.

The sports gala features seven games, including cricket, volleyball, football and badminton, tug-of-water, martial arts and archery.

A total of six teams comprising mostly elderly players took part in the archery competition.

In the first match, the Mela Mandrakhel team beat Dabak Mandrakhel team with a margin of 20 points. Paharakhel Thall club won the second match with a margin of eight points by outclassing Umarabad Ahmadzai club.

Langerkhel Hindal club stood winner in the third match by defeating Tajazai club with a margin of three points.

POWER OUTAGES: Inmates of the Lakki district jail have asked the government to reduce electricity loadshedding and provide the prison with the gas facility.

The demand was made during an inspection visit by additional deputy commissioner Habibullah Wazir on Saturday.

They told the district administration official that excessive power outages had added to their troubles too. They said that the prison was in dire need of the gas facility.

Mr Wazir inspected the kitchen and checked the quality of the food being served to the inmates. He also inspected the dispensary, juvenile section, barracks and other portions of the prison and directed the authorities to ensure provision of permitted facilities to prisoners.

The additional deputy commissioner asked the jail authorities to improve hygiene and ensure that all the CCTV cameras were functional.
