UNNECESSARY SCARE: This is with reference to the report ‘Over 0.5m people die each year in country due to medical errors, moot told’ (Dec 10). The report did not attribute the quote to any single speaker or the basis of such a claim. The report actually made one think that the whole purpose of this conference was to promote the cause of hiring phar-macists in every hospital. There is nothing wrong with such a demand, but unnece-ssary sensationalism is completely out of context. Regulatory authorities should compile data on causes of death from various hospitals and publish it quarterly. This will serve as a significant deterrent against medical malpractices.

VILLAGE HOSPITAL: Sarej is a village in Khuzdar district with a small population. Unfortunately, the facilities available at the local hospital in the area are all but scarce. Besides, the building of the hospital is also in a dilapidated condition. The state of hygiene and cleanliness, one of the core elements to ensure a healthy environment, is rather disturbing. Those at the helm of affairs are negligent and indifferent to the public, and treat them like animals. Only those with some ‘connection’, or those willing to grease the right palm are entertained. The staff lacks sense of duty, professionalism and commitment. The relevant officials should pay a surprise visit to the hospital and see the state of affairs prevailing there.

DEPRIVED SCHOOL: This is with reference to the letter ‘Deprived school’ (Dec 19) which highlighted the pathetic condition of a school in Khumar Wala. We are facing the same situation in Goth Khuda Bakhash Khaskheli near Adam Pir. The school has almost 150 students, but does not have enough classrooms, chairs and blackboards to cater to their educational needs. Unfortunately, it does not even have a boundary wall. The authorities concerned should visit the school and immediately do something about the whole affair.
