Two-faced politics

Published February 2, 2025

THE ruling party in Sindh has taken a clear stance on the ongoing issue of construction of canals on the Indus River, which is the lifeline of the people of Sindh; it opposes the proposed project.

There are a number of statements issued by party leaders, including the provincial chief minister, outlining the party position. But these statements are nothing, but double-faced politics by the party.

If the party really opposes the move, why its co-chairman, who happens to be the sitting president of Pakistan, does not raise his voice on the issue and take practical measures to stop the project? In fact, the party is officially facilitating it.

If the party is seriously concerned over the issue, it should disapprove any proposed bill, and even tell the federal government that the party would not back any controversial project. The fact is that the party has hardly ever cared for the people in rural Sindh. All it has ever wanted is their votes.

It is all about remaining in power, and enjoying it. The people of Sindh should understand such hypocritical and self-serving behaviour of the party, and make their elected representatives accountable.
