KARACHI: The Karachi police have decided to approach the federal government through the Sindh government to deport an American woman, Onijah Andrew Robinson.
DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said a letter was written to the Karachi police chief to approach the Sindh government to seek guidance from the federal government in this connection.
He said at present she was admitted to the psychiatric ward of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
According to a letter written by SSP-South Mahzoor Ali to the city police chief, the US citizen arrived in Karachi on October 11, 2024 to meet her online friend, who did not show up. Since then, she was left “unattended” in the city.
The letter said that the incident had “impacted her mental health” and she requires urgent medical care. Given these circumstances, the city police chief has been requested to approach the concerned quarters to provide guidance regarding her continuation of provision of medical assistance.
It said that “the process of her deportation” may be initiated for her timely return to the United States.
Robinson befriended Nidal Memon online and allegedly left her family in the US to be with him. The entire situation was brought to the public’s notice after JDC founder Zafar Abbas posted about it on social media. Subsequently, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori intervened to extend her expired visa and arrange a flight home.
However, Robinson refused to return home, took a taxi to Memon’s apartment building and stayed in its parking lot for nearly 30 hours before leaving for a Chhipa charity shelter.
