LAHORE: The Walton Road rehabilitation and upgrade project is all set to be completed by Feb 15, as most civil works have been completed.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz may inaugurate the project on Feb 23, according to a spokesman for the Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab).

“The Feb 15 is the last date given to us to complete the project by all means. Moreover, the CM office has also informed us about the project’s inauguration by the CM on Feb 23,” the spokesperson told Dawn on Tuesday.

According to him, the project is rapidly approaching completion, marking a significant milestone in modernising Lahore’s infrastructure.

Following the successful opening of the Maj Ishaq Shaheed Flyover, the CBD Punjab, he said, completed the asphalt paving of Walton Road, making it fully motorable for commuters.

With the primary road infrastructure in place, the authority has now commenced hardscaping and landscaping works along Walton Road. The ongoing horticulture efforts aim to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area, with the development of lush green belts and the plantation of trees, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly urban environment.

Additionally, critical ancillary works, including the construction of concrete footpaths, installation of signboards, and lane marking, are in the final stages. These improvements will not only add to the road’s functionality but also ensure a seamless and safe commuting experience for pedestrians and motorists alike.

OPERATION: An operation is underway at full swing against illegal settlements these days, according to the city district administration.

Saddar Assistant Commissioner (AC) Abdul Basit Siddiqui conducted an operation against illegal slums, resulting in voluntary evacuation.

The AC said during the operation against the slums, most were vacated, and seven trucks of goods were seized due to resistance.

Ravi AC Tariq Shabbir visited the River Ravi and oversaw the evacuation of slums and the relocation of displaced families. He also visited Sagian Road, where a cleaning operation is underway following the evacuation of the slums. The AC said during the operation on Baradari Road, three slums were demolished and a tent was confiscated.

Allama Iqbal Town AC Khwaja Muhammad Umair Mahmood conducted an operation against the resettlement of nomads in Mustafa Town, demolishing 70 tents, confiscating four trucks of goods, and disconnecting illegal hanging wires.

Raiwind AC Zainab Tahir said that operations are ongoing for the evacuation of slums and teams are in the field to improve cleanliness. Ninety-five percent of the nomads have moved their belongings, and LDA machinery will level the ground.

The City AC conducted an operation against slums in Gulshan Ravi and removed more than 30 slums. He said the transfer of nomads and the cleaning operation are ongoing.
