LAHORE: Supreme Court ex-judge Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed was laid to rest here on Friday after his funeral prayers were offered at the main mosque of H Block, DHA-I.

The funeral was attended by sitting and former judges of the higher judiciary, including former chief justices Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Mian Saqib Nisar, Asif Saeed Khosa and Umar Ata Bandial.

Supreme Court’s former judges, including Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Ijazul Ahsan, along with sitting and former judges of the Lahore High Court also attended the funeral.

Senior lawyers, including Senator Hamid Khan, former law minister Zahid Hamid, Babar Awan, former attorney general Ashter Ausaf Ali and Khwaja Haris, were also present.

Justice Saeed passed away on Wednesday. He was suffering from kidney and liver diseases.

Before his elevation to the Lahore High Court in 2004, Justice Saeed was appointed as special prosecutor by Ehtesab Bureau in 1997 and a deputy prosecutor general of the NAB in 2000.

He served as the chief justice of the LHC from 2011 to 2012 when he was appointed to the Supreme Court. He retired from the apex court in 2019.

He was also a part of the SC bench that heard the Panama Papers case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
