BAHAWALPUR: The main gates of the historic Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur, have been reopened after the completion of their revamping under Punjab chief minister’s “Suthra Punjab” programme resumption of sports activities in the stadium on Tuesday.

According to officials, Deputy Commissioner Dr Farhan Farooque reopened the revamped gates at a ceremony held here on Tuesday. Under the revamping project, the stadium’s gates have been given a new shape and illuminated with beautiful lights.

The stadium was constructed during the era of defunct Bahawalpur state by its chief minister Makhdumzada Syed Hassan Mahmood, the father of PPP south Punjab president and former governor of Punjab Makhdum Syed Ahmed Mahmood.

The stadium, which was named after late Bahawalpur Nawab’s aide Gen Dring had been the venue of a number of international cricket matches.
